Last Sunday everything changed in my household. And when I say “everything”, I mean Jonathan.
I’m not allowed to post pictures of him anymore because he’s 14 and I made him get a crew cut.
How did I manage to make him get a crew cut? Easy. I said, “You don’t take care of your hair so you’re getting a crew cut.”
Well that’s not EXACTLY how it happened. The truth is that there was a little negotiating involved. He agreed to get a crew cut if I agreed to not post pictures of him. So I’m posting this instead.

The baby birds represent little Jonathans at all ages. Notice how they all desperately need me? Well that’s a normal way of life around here.
And then Sunday happened.
The day started like any other day. I woke up first and quietly tried to get in as much writing time as possible before the demands of the day woke up. Little did I know that Jonathan had plans. Yes. My baby made plans with a friend THAT DIDN’T INCLUDE ME.
So while I was all, “of course you can go and play with Evan,” he was all, “HANG OUT with, Evan” because clearly there’s a difference.
And when I said “yes”, I was expecting to drop him off at Evan’s house where he would be supervised by Evan’s mom. But the real plans – the ones I was not included in – involved me dropping him off at a Tim Horton’s. Where STRANGERS lurk.
I haven’t been the same since.
