Good day to you, awesome readers,
Have you ever started doing something when your kids were little only to suddenly wake up one day – say 27 years later – and realize that it’s become an inherent family tradition?
Well for some reason, when my eldest was about a year old I started making wishes with her whenever she did something for the first time. Everything from her first poop in the potty to her first visit from the tooth fairy were deserving of a wish.
This ritual continued with all of my kids and to this day, whenever any of us does something for the first time, we make a wish. I’m no mathematician but considering that my kids are now 29, 26, 16 and 15, I think it’s pretty safe to say that we’ve made a lot of wishes throughout the years. I believe that wishes are a balanced part of a complete day and I’d like to pass this tradition on to you with the launch of our new project.
On New Year’s Eve, my friend, Jenn (also known as Chief Fairy Godmother over at the Social Media Fairy Godmother), and I finally bit the bullet and launched our YouTube channel called Fabulously Unfocused.
The backstory to Fabulously Unfocused
If you’ve ever run into Jenn and I in real life, you KNOW that we’re complete opposites.
Jenn is a water-drinking, committed and loyal friend. She’s driven by her rock solid family and projects herself with a sense of quiet confidence that I both admire and envy.
I, on the other hand, am a wine-drinking, neurotic solitaire who should be committed.
Despite our differences, Jenn and I share an unconditional friendship that just works. While there’s always much eye rolling and forehead slapping when we’re in the same room together, our differences are exactly the stuff that make up the dynamic of our friendship. It’s one of the wonders of the world that neither of us ever walks away from each other on the verge of a headache and that we always come back (together) for more.
About nine months ago, during one of our “let’s-do-lunch / do-people-even-do-lunch-anymore?” lunches, we started talking about our own YouTube channel. We had a gazillion great ideas (or possibly only one great idea) and the question that always came back to haunt us was:
“But who are WE to have a YouTube channel of random, nonsense-infested chit-chats?”
The answer of course, is:
“Who cares? It’ll be fun!!!”
And fun is the BEST reason for doing anything, we think.
Of course …
We hope you enjoy eavesdropping on our weekly episodes.
We hope you subscribe.
We hope you share our videos with your friends and family and the person sitting next to you on the subway.
But all that hoping is not the engine behind our madness. FUN is the engine behind our madness.
Enjoy!
Oh and don’t forget to make a wish as you watch the FIRST episode of many to come!
LUV IT! I see myself in both of you!
That’s because we’re every woman. Or something.
oh I’m going to Luv watching the two of you!! Great idea Ladies!
Thanks, Carol! Working with Jenn is a lot of fun 🙂
I recently told my 10-year-old son that he broke my vagina when he was born. He thought that that was absolutely hilarious–until I pointed out that his head TOUCHED my vagina. I thought that was hilarious!
Lol – That IS hilarious!!!
Lol – Sounds like you, Leona 🙂
