That time someone called me a “unicorn”

A few years ago I received a message through LinkedIn from someone who wanted to talk to me about a writing position. Spoiler alert: I didn’t accept the job.

But before I didn’t accept the job, I agreed to meet him for a coffee. Why did we meet in a coffee shop rather than in his office? Because at the time, he already had a writer and was looking to replace him so this was a TOP SECRET meeting.

Naturally, I thought he was a serial killer.

Then during our meeting, he confessed to having stalked me and my writings on the internet. That’s when he called me a “unicorn”.

That’s also when I started thinking that maybe he was delusional.

Turns out I had him all wrong. First of all, he’s not a serial killer. (At the time of this writing I am still alive.) I’ve also come to realize that for him, the term unicorn meant that he felt I could write just about anything, from white papers for the tech industry to marketing collateral to nonsense.

Today I call that name-caller my friend

Although I didn’t accept the position, said unicorn-name-calling-executive and I have developed a friendship and recently he suggested that I create a page on this blog with links to my other writings.

His rational? “One page with links to your other articles would have made my life so much easier when I was stalking you.”

So here we are. If you don’t like this page or have no use for it, you can blame my friend.

For the rest of you, below you’ll find a list of articles I’ve written as well as an update on the books this unicorn is currently working on.

In an “as you reap you shall sow” kind of way, I’m always reading more than one book at a time so it only makes sense that I’d be writing more than one book, right?

What I’m working on: Books

SUPERWOMAN: A Funny and Reflective Look at Single Motherhood (Cynren Press)
