This post was written last night after a very long day.
Right now I’m doing one of my most favourite things in the world. I’m sitting in my favourite Thai restaurant and writing. If you follow me on a regular basis, you also know that this means I’m on a date night with myself.
This isn’t easy for me to say so bear with me here: after a day like today, I so (read: SOOOOO) deserve this me time.
The day consisted of meetings (note the plural) that were long enough to take me to hell and back. In fact, although I participated in two very long meetings, the truth is they just blended right into each other like one super-sized smoothie.
If you follow my tweets, you read me say: “Calgon. Drown me.” (The nice thing about the iPhone is that everything looks so official when you’re on it – as long as you’re frowning).
I didnt’ tweet this because I was in the mood to show off my age by referring to an old Calgon commercial (Calgon. Take me away), but because torturous is an appropriate word for the kind of day I had and drowning seemed like the best alternative.
Okay. I’m rambling and have forgotten my point. . . .
Oh yes. I was talking about right now and being exactly where I want to be – with me.
I believe that everybody – even the clingy, I-can’t-be-alone types – should spend time with themselves on a regular basis. And when I say ‘regular basis’, I don’t mean like Tibetan monks. I’m not saying that you should board up all the windows to the outside world including your children’s bedroom doors. I’m just saying that getting in your own head once in a while – in a detached I-don’t-care-what-the-rest-of-the-world-thinks, is important.
Remembering who YOU are and what YOU like. That’s what I’m talking about.
And right now, I’m liking my Thai food, glass of wine and WiFi connection.
