Top 12 things you will never hear from your teenagers

December 29, 2012 by Mona Andrei 17 Comments

Clearly I lead a boring fantasy life.

1. Good morning! (*said first AND with a smile*)

2. I was thinking of doing my own laundry today – but first I’m going to refold what’s been sitting on my dresser for the past 8 months.

3. That’s okay. I actually PREFER the generic ones. They’re so much cheaper than the brand name and really there’s no difference.

4. Of course I don’t mind if we watch YOUR show. It will be a nice change from the crap I always watch.

5. I’d LOVE to set the table. You know, I really appreciate that you make us sit at the table together during meals. I don’t know what I was thinking when I said I wanted to eat in front of the TV.

6. Hi mom. Just calling to let you know that I’ve already shoveled the driveway. You’ll be able to drive right into the garage when you get home from work.

7. Wow! How do you make leftovers so delicious?

8. Do you mind if I go into the bathroom first? I want to clean the tub when I’m done.

9. I saw that you were working late again tonight so I went ahead and peeled the potatoes.

10. Do you have plans this weekend, mom? Because I was thinking we could clean out the basement together.

11. It’s uncanny how much you understand me.

12. I’m overwhelmed just THINKING about how much you do in a day. I don’t think I thank you often enough. Thanks, mom!

I have 4 teenagers. And no, I’m not kidding! They are all really good kids–top of their class, tons of activities, so I really don’t have too many complaints. Visiting from SITS…

Although I do not yet have teenagers, I’m dying. Can completely not see all these happening in my future. I may record myself saying them now so I don’t have to repeat daily in a few years. Loved it! Happy SITS Day!!!

I definitely didn’t say any of those things as a teenager – lol, hoping my son will be more exemplary than I was. 🙂 Also stopping by from SITS – have a great one Mona! -Iva

My five kids are 15 – 23. I can honestly say I’ve heard numbers 1, 6, 9, and 12 from one child at least once. Hm. I guess she’s twenty now and not really a teenager. Plus, she still feels somewhat grateful for all the work I did helping her after she had brain surgery last year. Okay, maybe she doesn’t count but I’m counting it anyway because I want to believe these things can happen.

My kids like leftovers, but I guess that could change by the time they are teenagers. Everything else is spot on for us!!

A few of these actually apply to my husband too – I don’t know whether that should make me laugh or cry. Happy SITS day!

A part of me does not want to believe but I still know it: my beautiful baby boy will eventually become a teenager. I think when I was a teenager I also did not mention any of the above (except maybe 1 on occasions).

The Superwoman Workbook

Buzz

“Mona’s ability to mix humor with insight is truly admirable.”
Holly Monteith, Cynren Press

"Mona Andrei has a way of using humour to teach life lessons, hard taught through experience. Superwoman, The Sh*t They Don't Tell You Edition is both an easy and a hard read as she delves into the ever-changing world of the single mom. From online dating to the joys of grocery store wine, her personal experiences are complemented in this edition by the addition of other real-world stories. This "from the trenches" approach will have great appeal to those trying to get it all done without doing themselves in."
Kathy Buckworth, author of I Am So the Boss of You

"Superwoman is a love letter to single mothers everywhere. Mona Andrei writes with the tenderness of someone who’s lived it and the clarity of someone who’s learned from it. Her humor, honesty, and hard-won wisdom make this book a companion, a mirror, and a reminder that every woman deserves to honor her own strength.

"Reading Superwoman feels like sitting down with your smartest, funniest friend who refuses to let you forget your own power. Both medicine and celebration, this is a must-read for any woman who’s lived whole chapters of life on sheer heart and determination. This book doesn’t just tell a great story — it elevates the spirit of every woman who’s ever carried the world and wondered if she was enough.”
