Hey there, awesome readers!
It’s Saturday and I have to say that I just went through one of the best writing weeks I’ve had in… well, weeks.
What did I work on?
- Two new chapters for a ghostwriting client. (This story is incredible, and I can’t wait for it to be released into the world. Unfortunately, you won’t know that I’m the ghost behind it because, well, that’s the ghost part of being a ghostwriter.)
- Interview with another ghostwriting client. (These conversations become the chapter content. It’s part of my process.)
- A fresh dose of real talk for the Single Moms with Moxie newsletter. (It’s called You’re Doing Better Than You Realize, and I could have certainly used those words once upon a long time ago, when my kids were little and still mine.)
- A plot twist in the YA vampire story. (I’m having so much fun writing this novel that it actually wakes me up at night IN NEW SCENES!)
- Two new chapters for the second edition of SUPERWOMAN: A Funny and Reflective Look at Single Motherhood. (Just when I thought I had run out of stories to tell, a new flood of memories come pouring in.)
- *Thinking… Still thinking…* (Yup. Disregard this bullet. That’s it.)
But jeez, Louise! Do you know how many words that is? Me neither and I’m not going back to count them. Let’s just say it’s A LOT. And by “a lot,” I mean my laptop may or may not be considering legal action for workplace abuse. (Pretty sure I smelled smoke coming off the spacebar on Wednesday.)
But seriously, something shifted this week. The words flowed, the stories took shape, and I actually felt like a writer. Not just a professional procrastinator with a questionable relationship with deadlines. (Yes, questionable. Deadlines and me… we break up every few months only to get back together after the dust settles.)
Maybe it was the planetary alignment. Or perhaps the new playlist I’ve been writing to. Or just the magical combo of purpose and persistence. Regardless, this week reminded me why I do what I do.
Oh! AND I received an email from my publisher after she read an article I wrote, saying, “I love your voice. This is great. And awesome title too.”
(I’ll definitely be filing that somewhere to read on a day when imposter syndrome strikes. Damn you, imposter syndrome!)
So, if you’re also in the middle of a project, a passion, or a pile of creative chaos, let this be your gentle nudge: sometimes the best weeks don’t start with clarity. They start with coffee, commitment, and a whole lotta winging it. and if you’re lucky, they end with a muse who finally shows up, slightly disheveled, holding a latte and muttering, “Sorry I’m late.”
One more thing… That last bullet that I told you to disregard? THIS. This blog post counts because writing about writing is still writing. (Ask any writer with a blog.)
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some celebrating to do! (Translation: The grass needs cutting.)
